The story of a family's struggle to keep the land they love.
Jordan Bend edition by Carolyn Williford Literature Fiction eBooks
The historical aspect of this novel, with the flooding of the valley, was interesting, and much of the testimony of faith was appreciated, but overall I had a hard time with the pacing of the plotline. It seemed to take forever to move from one scene to the next. It was far too drawn out with so much detail, that I was frustrated and would skip over parts just to move along in the story. There was good writing in many of the conversations and such, but the plotline would drag on and on. And the use of the word cornin' (coming) drove me crazy. Whether or not people really spoke that way did not make me appreciate it in this novel. Just my personal opinion.Product details

Fantastic story loved every page.
Jordan's Bend is one of my all-time favorite books. The story line evokes memories of my own growing up years and I could identify somewhat with Rachael, the main character, in her turmoil. I often found myself reading the book through teary eyes but with a softened heart. I loved it!
What a great encouraging story!!! Thank you God for this clean good story in a sea of icky stories!!!!!
This is a wonderful book dealing with faith and uncertainties about God when one is going through trials with others and yourself.
Loved this book. It contains historical facts about the Tennessee Valley Authority. Loved the story of a families struggles and joys of life in Tennessee. It reads with the dialect of the mountain people. My favorite character would have been Granny Mandy I think. Carolyn Williford left me wanting more of this story and the life of Rachael.
I don't think the author is a child of rural mountains during the depression. Her ideas of life at that time are from research, not experience.
I so enjoyed this book. You will really come to love the characters. As a grandmother of a toddler girl and another little girl on the way reading about Rachael's relationship with her grandmother was very encouraging to me. It made me want to be the kind of grandmother that points her grandchildren to a solid faith in Christ. I will look forward to other books by Mrs. Williford.
