Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump entered the 2016 election race with no political or debate experience. He had extremely low expectations heading into his first primary debate hosted by Fox News in Cleveland, Ohio on August 6, 2015. Trump took advantage of this and easily won the first debate, which catapulted him to permanent frontrunner status and he never looked back. He participated in ten additional primary debates, while choosing to boycott the event in Des Moines, Iowa in January of 2016. Nearly 200 million viewers watched the GOP primary debates and Trump’s reality television star background played a major role in this phenomenon. In “Debating The Donald”, a dozen debate experts from around the United States analyze Trump’s performances in the primary debates. They discuss what techniques were employed by the candidate to yield successful results. Finally, the authors predict how style and content from Trump’s primary debates will influence his three general election showdowns with Hillary Clinton in the fall. The first Trump-Clinton debate at Hofstra University in New York will have a Super Bowl-like atmosphere and will truly be must-see TV.

I love Trump and this book
Very insightful. As a great man one told me, "nothing is wholly obvious without becoming enigmatic." This book helps break down the man, the myth, the legend that is Donald Trump.
Life is defined not by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away. Learning to debate the Donald was truly one of these moments in my time on this planet. 11/10.
A dozen debate experts analyze Trump’s performances in the primary debates. They analyze tactics Trump has employed to be the frontrunner, setting the stage for the 3 general election debates with Hillary.
This analysis showcases Trump’s unorthodox debating style and his approach to responding to questions. Tips are given as to how Hillary could use these to her advantage. How has Trump managed to become the frontrunner, when he wasn’t expected to be a serious contender to begin with? This book goes through and critically analyzes Trump’s progress. This is an informative look at Trump’s elements of strategy in the debates, from how he chooses to answer questions to his evolving positions on Republican principles, and how Clinton could capitalize on them.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Credible news source Aaron Kall did always say "nothing becomes wholly transparent without becoming enigmatic" and this book really shows that. Debating the Donald really reminds me about the failures of information to change reality.
The paradox this book provides falling into the very trap of challenging Trump on his own terms truly accelerates this election where it so desperately needs to go.
Thanks for saving my marriage!
Great read, but the real question is, what do these folks know about debate?
When I first came across this book my reaction was "Trump has a debate style?" I was enlightened and entertained by this book and I know I will enjoy the debates much more with this trenchant analysis under my belt. Excellent and required reading for any political junkie.
Although I was a member of my high school and college debate teams, I have never been a huge fan of *political* debates. In fact, before this current election cycle when I, like a lot of folks, tuned in to parts of a few of the Republican Primary Debates just to watch the train wreck/fireworks, the last presidential-election debate I can recall watching was the first one between Reagan and Mondale (although I feel like I must have watched one in 1992 prior to Bill Clinton's first election). But despite coming to _Debating The Donald_ with that somewhat-less-than-full-on-debate-nerd-wonk perspective, I thoroughly enjoyed it and gained an appreciation for these debates. Reading post-debate "chalk-talk" breakdowns on debate strategies -- what worked, what didn't, what various candidates did well or should have done instead -- from some of the best competitive academic debate minds was simply fascinating. I had some concern that this would focus on abstract rhetorical theory, but found it consistently easy to follow and well-written. It definitely sparked my interest in the upcoming general-election Presidential Debates. When the first one airs tomorrow night, I'll be in my recliner with a bowl of popcorn on my lap -- and I'll be armed with a lot of new insight into presidential-debate strategy.
